If I Were from Reycraft Books Connects Young Readers to Nature
The illustrated book explores different aspects of the natural world and what it means to be a part of them.
New Rochelle, NY, May 30, 2023—Leading children’s trade publisher Reycraft Books takes young readers on a journey to experience the natural world and its many different elements in the new illustrated book, I Were.
Published on March 7, 2023, If I Were, lyrically written by Pilar López Ávila with striking and colorful artwork by Gina Rosas Moncada, is a prose poem that celebrates nature. The book explores a variety of ecosystems and inventive scenarios in forests, deserts, oceans, and skies, enabling readers to imagine things they could be in the wild—anything from a tree, a cloud, the wind, a whale, and more—and what they would do if they were in each of those forms.
In its review, Kirkus called If I Were “an imaginative round-robin survey of nature and one human’s part to play in the chain. … Sure to lead youngsters to consider what they could be and do in nature… and then to plant a tree.”
ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Pilar López Ávila lives in Cáceres, Spain. She received her Doctorate in Veterinary Science from the University of Extremadura. She currently teaches biology and geology at the IES Norba Caesarina in Cáceres. In her long career as a writer, she has received numerous awards and recognition inside and outside Spain.
ABOUT THE ILLUSTRATOR:
Gina Rosas Moncada is a Colombian illustrator and printmaker based in Hamburg, Germany. She studied Visual Arts in Bogotá, Colombia, and illustration at the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences. Her work has been exhibited in China, Korea, Taiwan, Germany, and other countries, and has been recognized in important illustration competitions around the world.
