Cave Girl’s Big Idea from Reycraft Books Tells the Tale of a Clever Young Girl in a Stone Age Setting
The picture book promotes the power of ingenuity, determination, and family.
New Rochelle, NY, May 31, 2023—Leading children’s trade publisher Reycraft Books is pleased to present Cave Girl’s Big Idea , a new picture book written by Laura Seely-Pollack and illustrated by Alexandra Colombo, published on May 15. The book, which marks Seely-Pollack’s debut as an author, focuses on Cave Girl, a plucky young innovator inspired by nature, who comes to the rescue when her family loses the cave they call home.
As it turns out, Cave Girl never really liked the cave to begin with. During a walk with her pet snake, she sees something that sparks an idea for a new home, something much better. But when she tries to tell her parents about it, they don’t pay attention to her. Then a bad storm makes the cave uninhabitable, and the family must work together quickly to find a new one. It just may be the perfect time for Cave Girl to pitch her idea again.
For Seely-Pollack, seeing Colombo’s colorful, stylish illustrations bring the story to life was a major highlight. “Alexandra Colombo is an amazing illustrator and did a great job of conveying the characters’ personalities and giving them each unique qualities,” she said.
Seely-Pollack wrote the book with a specific message in mind. “I absolutely want young readers to know that if they are passionate about something, they should persevere,” she said. “In some ways I feel like I went on a similar journey in the process of getting a book published. Much like Cave Girl, I had a big idea, and it took a while for it to come to fruition. Fortunately, like Cave Girl, I didn’t give up.”
ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Laura Seely-Pollack likes to come up with big ideas…including writing a book! She does not live in a cave, although she secretly thinks that would be pretty cool. Laura lives in New Jersey with her three awesome kids and her one super husband. And while she has yet to get a pet snake, she does have two cats and two dogs.

Alexandra Colombo lives in Italy in a house full of animals. She loves walking in the woods with her dog Ary. Alexandra has illustrated more than 200 children’s books around the world and hasn’t run out of ideas yet.
